The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults who teach them and learn from them; where the best means of preparing students for the future is to immerse them in the present; where a healthy learning environment requires joy and humor as well as rigorous intensity; and where students’ intellectual and aesthetic depth – along with their capacity for empathy and moral courage – emerge out of authentic engagement with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.

Exceptional school
Oakwood School was founded by parents as an independent school, where their children could flourish as thinkers, as artists, as athletes, and most of all, as human beings. It started in a family's backyard, and since then has grown to become a K-12 coeducational independent day school on two campuses, where young people prosper in thought and imagination, as individuals and as members of a school community.

Great environment
We are a very progressive community-oriented school with extremely rigorous academics. Our focus is on individual learners rather than competition between students. We believe that a school environment should be supportive and stimulating, and that applies to staff as well as students. We are always searching for bright, inquiring minds -- talented faculty and staff members.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer outstanding benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance that is fully paid for the employee only; health savings and flexible spending accounts (HSAs and FSAs); a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match [the non-profit equivalent of a 401(k) plan]; 11 paid holidays; paid time off; and more. We also have a brand-new kitchen, and we provide free lunch.
